Activated Voices: Young, Rural, Internet, Entrepreneur

October 31, 2012 By Tom Niemisto, Video Production Specialist

Growing up in a rural area, Darin Steffl had first hand experience with the lag in advanced telecommunications infrastructure, especially high speed internet service. This hurdle planted a seed in high school that has bloomed into an entrepreneurial venture as a student at St. Olaf College. A Finstad grant, through the Piper Center for Vocational and Career Studies, helped him launch Minnesota Wifi, a wireless ISP focused on rural service.

In this episode of Activated Voices, we talk to Darin about recognizing a need in his hometown and generating a business in hopes of boosting rural e-commerce.

Excellent Interview, a young man with a great vision and the stamina to make his dreams come true. Already to have your own business started at your age and a full time college student at St Olaf is an accomplishment in itself.
Minnesota WiFi is a young entrepreneur’s dream that will be a success and something that his home town community certainly will appreciate.

Darin is an exceptional young man, full of ideas, vision, initiative. He also looks at how he can help people through things like this Internet service but also things he did in high school like hosting movies in the park for his home town. He’s an exceptional young man with enormous potential. Congrats, Darin, your this business venture which has so much potential upswing!
